How to attempt test efficiently?

You can follow the given approach compiled by EduRev Experts on How to attempt mock tests or can use it as a guideline to formulate your own approach and strategy for attempting the mock tests.
The approach is divided into:

  1. Which section to attempt first?
  2. How to attempt the Biology section efficiently?
  3. How to attempt the Chemistry section efficiently?
  4. How to attempt the Physics section efficiently?
  5. How to reduce negative marking?

Which section to attempt first?

  • Biology should be attempted first as it consists of more questions than other sections and has more weightage.
  • Biology does not contain any numericals so this section will take least time to complete, hence giving you more time to complete other sections.
  • You can complete the Bio section ideally in 45 minutes leaving more time for other difficult sections. If you complete this section within 45 minutes, it will boost your confidence. You can achieve this timing by giving more and more mock tests.

How to attempt the Biology section efficiently?

Biology is divided into two more sections:

  1. Zoology
  2. Botany

In total, Biology consists of 90 questions out of 180 in the NEET Exam.

  • First you should attempt section A and mark all 35 questions. After that, Start section B.
  • Section B consists of 15 questions, out of which only 10 have to be attempted.
  • If you mark more than 10 questions, the OMR machine will only take the first 10 marked questions into consideration, so attempt carefully.
  • Be careful while filling bubbles. Mark the answers side by side in the OMR Sheet after completing each question.
  • You can first attempt either zoology or botany according to your convenience.
  • Attempt more and more mock tests to manage your time and solve biology in just 45 minutes.
  • You can attempt topic wise and subject wise mocks also whenever you have prepared some topics or a whole subject. This will prepare you for full mocks. EduRev has compiled these tests based on recent NEET pattern.
  • PYQs must be done, as it will help you in Exam. You can practice more similar types of questions which were asked last year.
  • Read NCERT line by line, questions are directly framed from NCERT, learning NCERT by heart will help you to attempt almost all the questions of biology and making your speed better, if you already have read the concept, you will not waste time in thinking.

How to attempt the Chemistry section efficiently?

  • The Chemistry section will take your 1 hour approximately.
  • Do theoretical and easy questions first, even if you have to start from the bottom.
  • For numericals in physical chemistry, read the questions carefully and mark the important information.
  • For attempting 90% of the chemistry questions, read NCERT by heart.
  • Direct formula based questions in physical chemistry must be done at the beginning as they take less time and are easy. Named reactions should be learned by heart and attempt questions fastly in organic chemistry.
  • You can attempt topic wise and subject wise mocks also whenever you have prepared some topics or a whole subject. This will prepare you for full mocks. EduRev has compiled these tests based on recent NEET pattern.
  • PYQ papers must be done, for maintaining speed, time and accuracy. The idea of type of questions and more number of questions from a particular topic are identified and will be helpful in real exam.
  • After completing section A in chemistry, fill the OMR bubbles simultaneously then start Section B and attempt only 10 questions out of 15.

How to attempt the Physics section efficiently?

  • Underline key points in physics questions, it will help you to solve questions fastly and accurately.
  • Calculation can be fast by practicing more and more questions.
  • Option elimination can be done, by using presence of mind, many questions can be solved by option elimination only and save your lot of time.

  • Solve PYQ to get the idea of difficulty level and type of questions.
  • Some questions can be just solved by dimensional checking without going through standard procedure.
  • Start doing questions from where easy questions starts , no matter if you have to start from the bottom.
  • Read the question carefully and twice to avoid any error in numerical while attempting the physics part.
  • While solving problems in physics, draw lines to separate and mark the question number.
  • NCERT textbook reading and questions must be done, as many questions come from NCERT.

How to reduce negative marking?

  • No guess work should be done in mocks or in real exam.
  • Control your urge to attempt all the questions.
  • When giving mock tests, cultivate a habit to bubble side by side, it will help you to manage time, if you mark for more number of questions in one go, there are many chances that you mark wrong and get negative marking.
  • Sometimes we don’t read the word “not” in do not, sometimes we take numerical value other than what is written in question so to avoid such mistakes make a habit to read any question twice, so that you know that you are answering correctly.

What to do after attempting the mock?

The approach is divided into:

  1. Analyse your performance
  2. Revise Mock

Analyse your performance

  • Analyze the questions you attempted wrong and the questions you attempted right ASAP after each test. Figure out whether you were having complete knowledge of the questions you attempted right or not.
  • For the questions, you attempted wrong, understand why you committed the mistakes. Identify topics where you are going repeatedly wrong and work out ways to eliminate silly errors.
  • While you are analyzing the mock tests make sure, you note down and star mark those questions which you were having no idea about. You can write such questions in your notes and can revise them in the end or periodically.

Revise Mock

  • Revising all mock tests is not possible, but you can revise the star-marked questions that you noted while analyzing the mock tests.
  • Do not forget to revise those tests entirely that you really think threw some new concepts at you and will be important for the NEET exam.
